About the water scorpionThis insect is not a true scorpion and rather belong to the Nepidae family in the Hemiptera order. This insect lives mostly in lakes and ponds even if it is a poor swimmer, and can endemic species can be found all over the world. It has a long tail which it uses to pump air on the surface. Its major preys are water beetles and mosquito larvae, sometimes even small fishes. Lots of individuals don't fly as their wings are not well developed. They lay their eggs under water , which can get oxygen from tiny hairs reaching the surface.

Predation |
Nepidae possesses two strong powerful pincer like fore legs, which it can use to grab and hold its prey. Its venom comes from its bite, liquefying the individual as an external digestion. With this beak they can either inject their venom or suck up the liquefied organs of the prey.
